I've been deep in rat community for years and have seen a few cults around it; I think the rat culture attracts people uniquely susceptible to stuff like this, and given that it's quite impressive that none of the core rationality stuff has gone off the rails.

as in, if you get a bunch of cult susceptible ppl (I'm including myself in this category) in one area, its not surprising if some unhealthy subgroups form. but I'd argue they formed away from core ideals of the rat community itself, and core rat groups stayed good
