Do you think it should be legal to humanely kill your own children under the age of 8, assuming both parents consent, there's a mental health evaluation, and a waiting period?
Just so I’m following, this is a mental health evaluation where both parents have said they want to murder their 3rd grader and the evaluator says “yeah, you guys seem fine?”
I think the steelmanned yes argument for this would be something like if your kid is a complete psychopath who beats their siblings and tortures animals to death and youre like hmm maybe this one shouldnt ever hit the streets
So, leaving aside the issues with an 8-year-old “needing” to be put down, the question was about the evaluation: like the idea is some mental health professional is going to talk to someone expressing filicidal feelings and conclude “actually, they’re fine?”
Doesn't really seem like the parents should be the final judge of that. They're hardly widely known to be impartial and universally of excellent judgement.
