one thing i hate more than anything is that if i go reveal my (birth) name to any hardcore evangelical christian/group anywhere they immediately go email my parents to let me know they talked to me and what i said and what i was like. It's like a giant spy network

I'm saying that a lot of behavior we often consider damaging feels like, to the other side, as care. This is true and also it is independently true that I experience their care as harmful. Pointing out 'they care' is not super relevant

Yep. My parents are similar re my transness, atheism, etc. They say stuff that is hurtful while sincerely believing that it might help me, and I haven’t made much headway convincing them that their intuition is all backwards in these areas.
