I have a memory of, as a child, discovering I was wearing three pairs of underwear because for three successive days I'd forgotten to take off the previous pairs before putting on the new ones. This memory feels clear and true and yet so absurd I can't tell if it's real

As a parent I believe it. Having young kids is a constant see-saw between being surprised how smart and aware they've become and how stupid and confused they still are.

Oh I have experienced that! I remember testing my jumping ability by leaping from the side of my grandparents’ stairs. I went step by step until the last. I can still vividly remember the pain in my feet from it. Thing is, it’s ridiculous, I was 5 at the time!

No matter how much suffering you went through, you never wanted to let fo of those memories.

Wouldn’t this entail that every time you needed to pee during those 3 days you did not notice it? That does seem unlikely.

I have a similar one. At a movie theatre, the stairs were four steps, then a bigger landing for the seats. I remember leaping from landing to landing even though at 10 I was a tiny kid and should not have been able to. No one can remember me doing this so I wonder if it happened.
