Bob, a billionaire, pays anybody he thinks shouldn't reproduce (based on mental or physical illnesses) a single lump sum to get sterilized.
Should this be legal or should the government stop this?

Seems to fly in the face of this result (and I think another one that I can't remember), where people had concerns about consent. In this case, consent is clearly manipulated by the offer of money so it should be even more lopsided in favor of illegal.

People’s intuitions are different because in the self-cannibal scenario, some people answering are assuming that the person is insane and not competent to make that decision. In contrast, a sterilization decision is one that people make all the time.

I wouldn't nagree to it but at the same time if the person agreed to then it would be their choice.

And what if it was based on something else? The underlying idea is that it is a contract between two consenting adults. Could you imagine how many junkies Bob could get sterilized on the cheap?

The IRB considers offering larges sum of money to participate in a study potentially coercive (any of use of Ss who are vulnerable due to disability or poverty can be, too).
On the flip side, I don't think people think that say child tax credits are coercive.
