the trope of conservatives being more disgust sensitive (purity oriented, afraid of uncleanliness, etc.) really does not line up nicely with covid reactions

I think disgust-sensitivity actually relates to authoritarianism, which is a potential trait on both sides. It’s just that authoritarianism used to be more heavily associated with the right.

Agree. IMO, it also doesn't line up when it comes to food/air/water purity, organ sales, meat/leather, genetic engineering, and probably other topics.

I'm skeptical of the conservative disgust research, but one way it could roughly fit is of the conservative disgust response is less corrigible
Conservatives worried about covid earlier due to higher base rate disgust but media can't influence it higher

Is that because their notion of purity is based on a 2000 year old myth and mutations of those myths?
