I did a survey (3300 people) in an attempt to get a clue as to how often sex trafficking really happens in the western world.

On a slightly releated note, a known German writer/journalist, Kurt Tucholksy observed already in the 1920s a sex trafficking hysteria in Germany at that time. He wrote a satire about it (in German).

The challenge with ST it is useful. Useful on all sides so the data will shift to reflect your position. I paint people for a living, including SWrs… I know of at least one woman who was very open about her ST experience…

I wouldnt be shocked that there would be a very low % of US women who are the victims of ST but more the case of women brought from other countries. Who would they communicate to when working at massage parlor for example when they don't speak english?

Hm. A little too late but I may have asked how many people know X number of undocumented workers, and checked that again the proportion of undocumented workers. Though for many reasons I don't think a 'normie' is going to know a sex trafficked person, however it's defined.

Hey Aella, I've been to survivor groups and a lot of people i met in these groups were trafficked. A survivor network would be a must for a survey like this. Also interviewing police or surveying the authorities who handle these cases are also a better source. But great article❤️

This is an interesting idea, but the only way to know for sure is to do a thorough and rigorous study. "Sex trafficking" is an emotional, hot-button issue that people have a hard time being rational about, and they confuse it with sex work.

This is a really clever approach! I took a quick look at the data. It seems consistent with a prediction of 1 in 1305 people being the victims of sex trafficking (see image). Let me know if you want the Excel file I made this from.
