On a slightly releated note, a known German writer/journalist, Kurt Tucholksy observed already in the 1920s a sex trafficking hysteria in Germany at that time. He wrote a satire about it (in German).

I think it is exeedingly rare in the Western World (as opposed to Muslim countries), but probably lots of projections / fantasies going on feeding the fear.

The challenge with ST it is useful. Useful on all sides so the data will shift to reflect your position. I paint people for a living, including SWrs… I know of at least one woman who was very open about her ST experience…
-
In my experience as a scientist we had a saying… everything is a model… all models are wrong. Some models are useful. ST is useful.

I wouldnt be shocked that there would be a very low % of US women who are the victims of ST but more the case of women brought from other countries. Who would they communicate to when working at massage parlor for example when they don't speak english?

Hm. A little too late but I may have asked how many people know X number of undocumented workers, and checked that again the proportion of undocumented workers. Though for many reasons I don't think a 'normie' is going to know a sex trafficked person, however it's defined.
-
Be it in general or knowing they're sex trafficked. Though I admit wording can be somewhat poorly defined, again, including the stories of how someone came to be an undocumented immigrant/sex worker (let's use that as trafficked for now).

If I'm reading it right, the percentages shouldn't be compared directly - the question is do you know someone who ____ and you get a percentage of respondents who know of someone, but the corresponding rate estimate is of the direct %. So you're adding a sort of network (1/2)
-
effect to the poll responses, and also respondents may not be aware if people they know fall into the category. It doesn't make the poll pointless or anything, but it's worth keeping in mind while reading that the percentages aren't measuring the same thing. (2/2)
