Which best matches how you think about gender? It’s like a name: you choose your gender, but it has cultural connotations It’s in the brain: in theory a brain scan could detect it It’s chromosomes: XX/XY determines it It’s soul-like: fundamental yet not in your brain or genes

Quite shocked many say it's in the chromosomes. Naive, serious question: How could this be, if people with XX chromosomes identify as male and vice versa? Unless we posit they are mistaken about their identity, which might happen sometimes, but all? Unless I'm missing something?

I still view xx chromosomed, male-identifying people as female. I can't help this, I don't have conscious control over this grouping system. Something about the way I process gender ranks biology much higher.

I don't think they're mistaken exactly, I usually just process it as "a female who wants to look and act like people with xy chromosomes do for whatever reason" (which is valid and I think they should be supported in doing so)
