Yes, sex workers have higher rates of mental illness. Yes, sex trafficking is bad. Yes, sex work can be emotionally damaging. Yes, sex workers often have trouble finding jobs/partners. And no, none of these are good arguments for restricting the behavior of consenting adults.

Ofc sex workers have more mental illness - sex work is stigmatized, so the people on the outskirts will be the ones who do it. And ofc some will be forced into it, much as they are forced into many other kinds of labor. And ofc theres emotional toll, just like other jobs.

As you alluded, a lot of these negative effects are due to the stigma, not the sex work itself. If someone purports to care about the welfare of SWs, personally choosing to not stigmatize them is a good first step!

I think everyone should attempt to find a tribe of people that loves and supports them. SW for some is horrific... for others it is just work. There is no need to try and figure out how to convince one group of anything when you have the other...
