Yea I feel like it's slightly more complicated but that 1% complication is rather significant. Like, your brain being in "starvation mode" when you cut calories is a pretty big incentive

I'd say pretty much A for healthy people. I'm not a dr. so I can't really comment further. There are medications, such as the one I'm on that cause weight gain. In extreme examples, if someone stops eating, they do eventually start shrinking. That supports position A firmly.

Caloric intake and proper deficit with some exercise works for most, but there are underlying issues and stages of life that may complicate that (Diseases of the thyroid, if a woman is having periods or in menopause). Most would benefit from exercising and not gorging themselfs

your thyroid can die but it doesnt make you fat. good god if you blame things on your body you have no chance but if you're responsible you are in control. its that simple. hypothyroid runs in my family: we're skinny. hypothyroid means you don't get hungry
