One of the things that makes me most pessimistic about the future of human civilization is that we have no system for evolving new nations and methods of governance. There's no experimentation, no way to make your own country and actually try new things.

The book The Sovereign Individual lays out the map of how the nation state is losing its grip just like the church and feudalism did. The technology causing this cannot be stopped.

Innovations like cryptography and decentralized networks make it cost prohibitive for govts to maintain monopolies on violence. They are also gradually defunding the state, just like gunpowder and printing press did to the church.
