This is true! But, not necessarily unwise. A society that doesn't value "protecting the children" highly (perhaps, above all) is a society with an expiration date.

You can get away with destroying an incredible amount of human freedom by just poking a little at moral disgust and uttering the magic words "we have to protect the children"

"Above all" is a kind of scary claim, I can think of a lot of things I'd rather keep before protecting children; e.g., letting children play outside despite the fact that one of my childhood friend's brothers hit head on rock and died when playing outside.

First of all, yikes, new nightmare I am speaking in very general terms, and yes, a certain amount of risk and danger is healthy. But I think the Apple case is more complex than that (if that is indeed what you were referring to).

I wasn't, I was referring to people trying to take down Onlyfans, which has the most rigorous age verification I've ever seen on a sex website, because protect the kids

idk if this is cope or whatever but to me that seems less like a "protecting the children vs. not protecting the children" case as a tradeoff between protecting children from a very rare and bad threat (hitting their head on the rocks) vs. one that does more *overall* damage...
