This feels perennial. But I wonder if widespread adoption of better views of child development, parenting, and education would make a dent here. “No yeah actually I am thinking of the children.”

That is sometimes true. But also sometimes true is that the people who children need protection from, will try to discredit that protection via accusations of moral panic, overkill, and pearl clutching.

Yeah but a lot of the things people include as equal value elements of the set ‘freedom’ are not that important. Some freedoms are extremely important, other freedoms are meh.
