thought was obvious but to clarify: ending all school with decent alternatives would probably end up hugely helping our fight against global warming. can you imagine what our civilization could do if as kids we were trained how to actually think in a non-traumatizing environment?

School as it currently exists is one of the worst things about civilization. If I had to choose between stopping global warming or ending all school (with decent alternatives) I would probably end all school.

School isn’t traumatizing for everyone. Not everyone has your experiences. No system is perfect, but the net gain for mass education far outweighs the cons.

I wasn't traumatized by school, but like 90% of my friends report experiences in school that seem awful to me

And 90% of my friends (including myself) didn't. The focus should be on what made it traumatic for your friends and how can we address and fix that. Not remove all education completely. If my grandma gets sea sick on a cruise, I'm not going to say we should destroy all boats.

Are you sure it's not observational bias: 90% of your friends *who talk about it*, with those who just had a neutral experience not talking about, and possibly those who had a positive experience shutting up for fear of being shunned? Where I work, school really lifts kids up,
