School as it currently exists is one of the worst things about civilization. If I had to choose between stopping global warming or ending all school (with decent alternatives) I would probably end all school.

Having no parents at home is a reality for way more people than you're thinking about, without even acknowledging the unfit or overtired or abusive parents, for the children of whom school is a necessary asylum

I'm inclined to say it must be true that school is better than no school for *most* kids, because teachers are somewhat smarter and better equipped to guide children than the average adult, and possibly the average parent too.
