When something works long enough, people seem to forget why it exists in the first place. Do you have any idea how bad the food situation was in this country prior to the fda? Chalk, asbestos and other things in milk. Literal sawdust in cereal. Spoiled meat.

Having worked on "the inside" I would like to note that the FDA is not unlike most federal regulatory bodies being unable to handle the rate of change, in some kind of operational paralysis between what to repeal and what to add, and/or otherwise quickly becoming a vestigial
