Controlling / cruel behavior will find the justification it needs to hide behind (in your parents case the church). Does not mean the values and ideals are necessary bad. An abusive household, no matter it’s ideological allegiance is Hell for children.

I see where you are coming from. Requiring trads to say their values are prone to abuse seems unfair though. It’s not the ideals at fault but the individual. True trad values include to turn the other cheek and NOT be abusive. So if you see shit just call them to repentance lol
