IMO trad isn’t losing, it’s emerging, and I think you can draw a pretty clean line there from a culture that increasingly uses “vanilla” as a put-down for girls that don’t want the crap beaten out of them during sex & “ghosting” as a euphemism for using & discarding sex partners

cause atm I'm not fully convinced these ppl understand exactly why trad sexuality norms are losing out in today's sex battles; trad sexuality norms may have helped a lot, but they also really fucking hurt a lot too, and I want deep recognition of that before moving forward

Anything feels like a put down if it's used by someone you want to be with as a reason to reject you. But the word "vanilla" has no inherent negative connotation. Can't think of a nicer way to describe what it refers to so succinctly.

vanilla as a descriptor for sex preferences has not had the negative connotation in my experience, despite it having some negative connotations in others. in the world's I've seen, ppl are fine self describing as vanilla

Guess it depends on who’s talking. Vanilla people are fine describing themselves as vanilla but those who think of themselves as edgier use it as a term of derision. Which is sort of dumb b/c despite being white (what’s wrong with being white?) vanilla has a complex flavor.
