Why should someone on minimum wage be able to afford a medium-quality 2-bedroom rental? Do we have no room in our society for people who don't need much more than a low-quality one bedroom? or even roommates? I've lived with roommates for years and it's great.

There are real tradeoffs in addressing the working poor, but most people still want privacy, monogamy and children, and no, it's really not good enough to be sheltered in a room during the hours you're not pretending to find some semblance of meaning from your minimum wage job

this, like most things, is still super culturally relative; what living standards are acceptable aren't an absolute fact of humanity but rather are learned around what we think we can get and comparison to others.

A lot of this depends on qualifying the discussion around a full time position. If you are working 35-40 hours a week, at minimum wage, I think there should be some expectation to afford a place to yourself be it one or two bedroom.
