wanna start an actually-good sex research institute that isn't bound by academia and also helps teach people how to interpret research for themselves, how should I go about getting funding?
There are people who apply for grants/fundraise professionally and tend to know the landscape of a given cause area pretty well (institutions, individuals, govt. bodies).
im wary of fundraising through more trad methods like grant applications, cause i was under the impression you have to do things like get approval from ethics boards
Yes this particular topic of research is notorious for *not* receiving funding. Ethics aside—just because of the topic.
It’s ridiculous, it’s an apt commentary on our society, and makes it *such* an important thing to do and a huge opportunity.
If you are making your own research institute, you'd be able to largely dictate the structure of your own ethics board.
If your goal is to do things you couldn't even get past your *own* ethics board, I'd also have serious questions about whether funding you is a good idea.
