You're right. When we are kids, our own parents appear as wise elders to us. As we grow older, we slowly lose that perception of them. They aren't perfect. Nobody taught them how to be a parent. They never even had time to process their own issues before focusing on a child.

The cycle of despair repeats every generation. I think the great struggle of humanity is to break out of this cycle. And this cycle encompasses more than just parent-child issues. But it is also a large part of it.

Kids are generally hyper aware of their parents shortcomings and status super early. Their is a wide spread phenomena around 5 where kids begin imagining their parents are richer more powerful people.

It has always been intriguing to me that we require long, arduous processes to be come a foster or adoptive parent. You need to have a good income, a clean criminal record, and be somewhat mentally stable. You need none of those things to become a biological parent.

I'm happy about that actually. If people with deep emotional problems did not have babies, then none of us would be here. Its amazing that in the middle of the struggle of life on earth a human, however unaware, can still say yes to existence and its perpetuation.

Suggesting, as it seems you are, that everyone is afflicted by deep emotional problems serves only to erode any possibility of productive conversation about the broad spectrum of emotional disturbances people may suffer from.
