the idea of 'the war' really only existed w WW1 & WW2 in public conscious. the biggest difference is the advent of birth control + atomisation of families/communities meaning women want more financial independence from solely their husbands.

I think the extant the physical prowess/ability is largely meaningless within society has definitely upended the concept and need for gender.
