Heading to miami for the btc conference. The first crypto conference I ever went to, I studied crypto hard beforehand, got there, and realized nobody cared about how crypto worked, they just cared about finances/investing Sooo this time I'm just going to get drunk

Srsly I went into a deep hole about how cryptography works, came to the conference ready to hold my own, and found that I could not hold my own because the discussions were really about building businesses and marketing and convincing each other to buy crypto

You’ve got to hang out with the devs at conferences if you want those discussions, there’s always a mix. We could’ve talked about zkproofs at devcon :)

that's disconcerting. Like looking forward to a Star Wars fan event for a long time, day 1 the first person you talk to is like "who is Yoda we're here to sell merch"

The game theory, politics, and economics of Bitcoin matter just as much as the technology behind it. Doesn't matter how good your protocol is if nobody's using it, or mining it!
