Recently was at the doctor, and he thought previous ppl who had treated me were wrong. "That's not the cdc recommendation", he said. But then he checked against, saw cdc had updated, and was like ok you're fine. It made me uneasy how much he just blindly trusted the cdc webpage-

Of course maybe he simply doesn't have time to do any independent research? But I would definitely pay more for a doctor who took the time to research everything like this.

That unquestioning mindset is the rule in medicine, not the exception. Doctors have to be smart to meet strict educational requirements, but they don't have to be inquisitive, inventive, or introspective to advance their careers. Often, those traits are treated as liabilities.

You have to be more specific. Was it an instance of choosing one medication over another? Doing a pap-smear every 3 years instead of 5? The consequences of doing one over the other are usually negligible

Not unique to either MDs, or CDC. Vast majority of those in the professional class hang w the group (eg for MDs that means follow guidance (most not from CDC), for hedge funds fail w everyone else). MDs are more unique in that field is squishy, but loathe to admit ‘don’t know’.
