Like, there was zero organic questioning in him. He didn't care why the cdc had updated, he didn't seem to doubt at all or want to investigate. It was like he just referred blindly to a manual and that was really scary. I do not have the same faith in the cdc that he did.

Of course maybe he simply doesn't have time to do any independent research? But I would definitely pay more for a doctor who took the time to research everything like this.

Doctors are little more than glorified body mechanics. Just following diagnostic manuals and such. They don't care as long as they can profit off of your illness.

Don’t be this comically cynical.

I’m sure there’s plenty of smart GPs. I just have never met any.

Have fired 4 doctors. One recommended a premenopause complete hysterectomy, one lied pre-op. Helped put one in jail for sexual assault of unconscious patients; saw him one day, not long ago, driving a cab. One, just stupid.

Here's an (admittedly open) secret: Most industry professionals in basically any highly educated field, whether it be law, engineering, or yes, medicine, look up information. There's just too much information to memorize it all. Which is not to say the CDC is a good source. 1/2

However, as other people have pointed out, the CDC is a legally authoritative source. If you are following CDC guidelines, your ass is covered, whether the CDC is right or not. Should your GP do better? Maybe. Should you expect your GP to know shit without looking it up? No. 2/2

Consensus is paramount in medicine due to inherent limitations in data. This sets up the legal frame of “standard of care.”

Doctors are human lookup tables. That's what they're trained to do.

The expert she’s asking to be able to hire is actually a scientist. Thankfully she did hire a bunch of them already. They work at CDC writing guidelines for doctors to look up.
