It was really startling for me. I thought I'd get some kind of continuity between the man and the wolf. I thought at least some men wouldn't have wolves at all. I've had sex with a lot of women, and they don't become wolves! But the men became different, felt different.

that's a super uncharitable frame. even if you consciously know something is true or false, it can still be shocking to experience it in a visceral way, especially because of the extreme extent to which people try to hide it from you.

Maybe it is -- I consider it pretty tame compared to your "werewolf" metaphor. But I will agree men to a large extent hide this side of themselves, and I'm not necessarily blaming you for society's misguided approach to sexuality.
