There will always be people in this world eager to hurt others. It is human nature to be selfish, and sometimes violent. That isn't changing. All one can do is be prepared for it.

Considering we live in objectively the safest time in history I'm curious why so many people said they feel unsafe. Is the danger physical or something else (emotional, reputational etc.)?

Safe, but not as safe as before the BLM riots last summer. They've made everyday life more dangerous for everyone, but especially for black people.
