I feel like I'm in crazytown when I express distress about taxation - literally people forcibly taking away your property - and ppl act like I'm the crazy one. Sure, you could argue that this forcible theft is worth it, and I'll respect that, but it's still not crazy to be upset.

Taxes are consented to by “we” as a collective, but probably not you or I as individuals. I think the nature of the distress is understandable, but if this is “force” then so is literally every act of government.

Obviously I don't know you that well, but you keep saying you want freedom from taxes and gov't shouldn't use force. If you honestly think voluntary contributions & people's entlightened self interest are going to keep everything running, you are willfully delusional.

Naw, I think selfish self interest will do it, assuming there's some structure in place to prevent the violation of negative rights. I think that efficient, non coercive selfishness typically ends up being net positive.

That's what I meant. I was using "enlightened" to mean "far-sighted, non-stupid". FWIW, I realize you are not unique in thinking this and yours is the position of many libertarians and a lot of Ayn Rand fans, and I will stick to my previously stated analysis of aid position.

Feel free. I don't mean too but won't comment further on this issue if you don't, as I am trying to think of way to talk about this that couldn't be construed as insulting and failing. If we each think the other's position is based on a false view of the world/human interactions
