"If you don't like it, move to a different country; you implicitly consent by staying here" is an argument I hear a lot from people when I complain about taxes, but is mysteriously absent when I complain about things like the drug war or bad policing

Absolutely! Discussion is great! The whole "I'm forced to" feels a bit extreme. A government raising revenues through income taxes is fairly common. This doesn't feel like some sort of radical law.

As it stands US taxes as share of GDP is near the bottom of OECD while a disproportionate amount maintains our empire, all while we have regions with mortality rates in line with Bangladesh & one of the worst infant mortality rates of developed nations.

The drug war was never *that* popular. Paying taxes and supporting the greater society? More so.

Taxes keep the poor from starving and the wealthy from becoming nobility (though current conservative tax policy is slowly allowing the second). Taxes are an absolute good and defend liberty.
