I feel like I'm in crazytown when I express distress about taxation - literally people forcibly taking away your property - and ppl act like I'm the crazy one. Sure, you could argue that this forcible theft is worth it, and I'll respect that, but it's still not crazy to be upset.

This is such a tired and poorly informed take. No one is forcing anyone. We live in a democracy, taxes are as low or as high as the majority decides. The social contract requires the levying and collection of taxes. If not, you don't have a society.

Great question! To cram into super-brief summary 1) would need stronger government that resists corporate influence/subsidies 2) need a roll-back of regulation that stifles innovation/competition 3) tax based on externalities 4) vastly reduce scope of govmnt.

Laws have no potency if there aren't consequences for ignoring them. What you call "force" most grownups call the real world. Democracy is a delicate balance between freedom and order.

Perhaps I'm incorrect on this, but my understanding is there is no possibility of jail time for simple non-payment of taxes; as long as you file and report as required. Of course, your assets will be taken from you to pay those debts, so...
