The ballooning government control over our lives, our bodies, and our property is really freaking me out, and I feel helpless because the same government has made it extraordinarily difficult to find any escape. How do you handle this? What do you do?

I probably speak for most liberal-y readers when I ask, has government control actually been unusually expansive lately? What are examples of what you’re worried about?

Proposed increase capital gains tax, tax in general, the massive bailouts recently, the government money printing that's likely going to cause significant inflation, and just. In general I feel this all the time.

Do you make more than $1M a year and have capital gains? Congrats! How would you propose we fund the government that helped you achieve your success?

I think I would have had even greater success if the government hadn't been taking away 30-50% of every dollar I earn, depending on the year. And I'm still horrified about violations that happen to people who aren't me.

Perhaps. If your effective tax rate is 30-50%, again, congrats! But we’re communicating on the by product of a government funded effort. I live in a country relatively safe and wealthy when compared globally or historically. Bringing that about benefits me but costs money.

For instance, I attended public school. I benefited from student loans for college that would not be available absent government intervention. I have relatively clean air and water. I don’t pass millions of destitute people each day. These are acceptable trade offs to me.

The 'don't tax me!' mindset is such an inherently selfish one to me. Of course the efficiency and utilization of taxes can be debated, but not the concept itself, unless a person has zero empathy for their fellow citizens, so many of which are struggling.

If you look in the thread, I haven't said I am 100% against all taxes, but that I think the current amount of taxation is far too high. And it's not just me, it's a violation against most people.

You're against the taxes that *you* have to pay.

I'm also against taxes that I don't have to pay.

Are you against the programs and safety nets funded by taxes?

She is, she just isn't going to say that she doesn't give a fuck about the suffering of others. Because if she's against taxes, she's against social programs they pay for. There is no grey area. Period.
