I feel like I'm in crazytown when I express distress about taxation - literally people forcibly taking away your property - and ppl act like I'm the crazy one. Sure, you could argue that this forcible theft is worth it, and I'll respect that, but it's still not crazy to be upset.

This is a common misunderstanding. It requires that they file a tax return (which they shouldn't, IMO). But most US citizens living abroad that I've spoken to say that they pay very low or zero US taxes, unless most of their income is actually US source.

There are a number of countries with short (3yr) residency requirements for citizenship you could move to and then renounce your American citizenship if you wanted.

the US has an exit tax, which would tax all of my assets that I own worldwide as though I'd sold them all. But even despite this I've been seriously considering it. My main problem is being too far away from my family.

If you are an ex-pat and stay out of the US, then no, even though you have to file, you don't pay for the most part. You can also renounce your citizenship and not pay anything more.
