I feel like I'm in crazytown when I express distress about taxation - literally people forcibly taking away your property - and ppl act like I'm the crazy one. Sure, you could argue that this forcible theft is worth it, and I'll respect that, but it's still not crazy to be upset.

not even the same because mafias are not accountable to society and government is. There are checks and balances in government that limit what it can do along with remediation and arbitration through a judicial system.

Who do you think fills the void when a central government is weak and ineffective? Organized groups of people advancing their goals with force. The mafia, yakuza, warlords in Somalia and Afghanistan, etc.

That’s precisely the point - so the mafia doesn’t get to rule. Don’t pay taxes - don’t have government - rule of law changes into natural law, which is always ‘strongest wins’.
