I feel like I'm in crazytown when I express distress about taxation - literally people forcibly taking away your property - and ppl act like I'm the crazy one. Sure, you could argue that this forcible theft is worth it, and I'll respect that, but it's still not crazy to be upset.

I think governments shouldn't be efficient. They should be transparent and have plenty of roadblocks in any choice they make. That means I have time to fight their calls. Corporation-style efficiency is a bad thing for governance.
-
To be fair, most current governments are neither transparent nor efficient,so I guess we're both unhappy with the way things are,but we disagree on how things should be?

This is fine as a prior, but you should know that data doesn't bear this out. I looked into exactly this - https://www.strangeloopcanon.com/p/the-costs-of-efficiency …

In general, corporations are less efficient than governments. The US may be an exception (this is arguable) but if so that's because we have an unusually inefficient government compared to other advanced nations.

Yeah, entities that solely exist for profit, and wouldn’t make roads or post offices in non-profitable areas are totally more efficient. 90% of things you enjoy are because governments do them in spite of a profit motive. Like roads, the public commons, and public goods.

Arpanet, the internet’s basis was developed by the us military. A huge sunk cost. A company coming up at that time wouldn’t value the immense cost because it isn’t profitable. Efficient corporations are a total lie. Private fire departments? Those were terrible. Etc.
