I feel like I'm in crazytown when I express distress about taxation - literally people forcibly taking away your property - and ppl act like I'm the crazy one. Sure, you could argue that this forcible theft is worth it, and I'll respect that, but it's still not crazy to be upset.

It is consensual. You could leave the US if you don't like it. The deal in the US is that you get to make an extraordinary comfortable living benefiting from the society that your taxes pay for.

I view this as I am making a comfortable living *in spite of* taxes. Society has managed to grow *in spite of* taxes. Imagine where we would be if we didn't have that burden!

There are millions of people in your country, and billions in the world. It would be real swell if we had a political system that couldn't make any of them do anything until each and every one of them explicitly agreed to it, but that isn't something that's currently workable.

But the only reason you have “property” in the first place is because you are part of a system (a country) that has laws that define property and a government and courts and police and soldiers who protect and maintain the system.

Your property is *your* property in large part because of the government. Your property rights, especially in the US, are maintained by the military, police, judicial system etc. I don’t think it’s as simple as trading of consent or value
