Question: I collected survey data from members in a FB group. The FB group is for/affiliated with a LLC that runs a business off of/around it. The owner of group contacted me and said I'm not allowed to share the data anywhere else, as it's a registered LLC. Is this a real thing?

Did you offer a release form or something similar to the participants that gave you their permission to share the data? This sounds like a consent issue. Did they all give you their consent?

The LLC means nothing, and you can do whatever you want with data collected voluntarily. You may get booted it of the group, but it sounds like you're not welcome anyway.

Lawyer here, licensed since 2018. Based on simply what you shared ("because it's an LLC"), no. The circumstances could change based on further facts (e.g., triggering potential contractual or trademark arguments) to inform the entire situation, but it seems unlikely.
