Separately from this "they go tattle on me" point, Christian spaces online are surprisingly hostile. I just joined another community and some of what I experienced was (thread)

one thing i hate more than anything is that if i go into a fundie christian space online, under a different handle, and tell anybody at all my birth name, the christians go and tell my dad I'm there and what I'm saying. It's extremely annoying.

1. Had to verify to access their server. They were hesitant to do so, made me voice talk to verify, and told me i was entering with a strike against me already because I'd blasphemed. "I blasphemed?" I asked. They said 'Yes, you typed out 'O - M - G'.

2. There's a section of the server reserved for Christians only 3. An attitude of very strong hierarchy. The mods ARE GOD. If you don't like, it, tough luck. "Degrading mods is degrading order" is in their rule list. 4. Server must have 50% or more Christians

Once I accidentally joined a Christian server under my Aella name; they googled my name, and then DMd threatening to ban me if I seduced any of the men. Like wtf, I don't want any of your unkinky deliberate virgins, what do you think I am a harpy from hell?

Often in these spaces I get the feeling of general background fear. If I fuck up, they assume bad faith. When I said 'omg' I got a "strike for blasphemy", not a "Hey, would you mind not doing that here, we don't like it". I feel othered and viewed with suspicion. It kinda sucks.

In spaces like these, the part of their worldview where "unbelievers can't be trusted, have no moral guidelines, will hurt you, potentially influenced by satan" really seeps through. It seems like to them, black tar is oozing off of me and onto everything I touch.

I consider myself to be a Christian, but I don’t think I’m like that. I think that most of us just try to live ethical lives just like you. You tend to hear from the more extreme and intolerant ones, but it’s like that with most any idealogical, political, or religious group.

so why even engage them? is there anything about those spaces worth all the trouble? Seems as pointless to me as trying to join flatearther spaces, their inside culture sounds pretty similar
