I don't know if I'd call Hamper extraordinary, but his circumstances were about as ordinary as it comes.

Pretty much every autobio covers the second because there are ordinary circumstances in virtually everyone's life at one time or another.
-
I mean at some point or another, but I mean a bit more generally; some people's lives are interesting because they like... got born into a cult or had a rare cancer or almost died on a mountain

Definitely an extraordinary life. Don’t know about ordinary circumstances.

Pretty much anything by Bukowski, whether it's labelled autobiography or not. Ham on Rye is the best place to start.

Historical novels rather than biographies, but the Wolf Hall trilogy was fascinating in how people gain and wield power, how the purpose of royalty is to produce more royalty, and how grossly misunderstood it all was. But Thomas Cromwell, the books’ focus, was a real operator.
