Yeah, and while I think that many people tend to underestimate the influence of selection effects when talking up the practical value of philosophy, I do think it facilitates the acquisition of some valuable metaskills.

Yeah, it's a selection effect. Philosophy is compelling to people who have traits that are useful for making money in ways not especially related to philosophy. I studied philosophy, then went off to write code for Amazon.

At a good programme churns out people who are both super analytical and super articulate - they tend to make great lawyers, Government Officials, Journalists, etc.
