I didn't know this! I was under the impression that philosophy students use it in addition to another career and mostly make money off the other career, right?
Is philosophy actually good? I always thought I wanted to do it but after meeting people who majored in philosophy I realized most of them were really bad at thinking, and whatever philosophy was teaching wasn't how to think. I'm assuming your experience was better?
Nothing about that indicates that majoring in philosophy was the cause of their financial success, right?
I think it's probably almost entirely a selection effect.
Yeah, it's a selection effect. Philosophy is compelling to people who have traits that are useful for making money in ways not especially related to philosophy. I studied philosophy, then went off to write code for Amazon.
At a good programme churns out people who are both super analytical and super articulate - they tend to make great lawyers, Government Officials, Journalists, etc.
