I'm curious: at what point would you personally be willing to renounce your US citizenship and move overseas to avoid punitive taxation? What fraction of your income would they have to tax before you had enough?

I'm not Aella but - my support for the USG does not impinge my American-ness. In fact, it is my American-ness that makes me support the USG less. That said, I oppose pretty much every other government more.

But if you want to escape the taxes, renouncing citizenship seems like the realist's option

No, renouncing doesn't escape taxes. People continue paying taxes where they live, regardless of citizenship. In fact, most who renounce even pay more in taxes than they would if they live in the US.Renunciations can be better understood as gaining protection from govt fault

It can escape some, double tax treaties cover some things but not all - for example when a tax isn't usually applied in one jurisdiction:https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-30932891 …

Double-tax treaties don't exist for victims of US citizenship, due to the "Saving Clause". They are a scam which mislead people. US citizens are fully subject to double-taxation, for which "exemptions" are introduced to reduce the harms in some cases.

Which is why renouncing US citizenship can escape taxes! Just needs a plausible reason for doing so that doesn’t involve admitting it is for tax purposes.

It's impossible to escape taxes. Everyone pays taxes where they live, regardless of citizenship. Do US residents complain when people move to America to pay less in taxes? Nope

A big part of my complaint is that america taxes american citizens even if they don't live in america. It's one of the only countries to do this.
