In general (but not always), i default interpret "I'm nonbinary" to mean "I don't like when people have gendered assumptions about me"

I take it more as "I want people to think I'm more interesting than I am" or a genuine confusion about what gender is.

I do think it's a confusion about gender (or operating off a framework of gender I don't have), but I don't think I interpret it as more attention-seeking than a ton of other behaviors we don't think twice about. I think it can be a highly left/liberal-correlated signalling thing
