In general (but not always), i default interpret "I'm nonbinary" to mean "I don't like when people have gendered assumptions about me"

That's not what it means though, it means you're literally not just a boy or just a girl

i mean, okay, but i don't know what *that* means. What are you defining as 'girl'?

That's probably part of it, at least for me. I would also say that expressions of gender identity have always in general felt uncomfortable and inauthentic to me and I generally find the opposite sex somewhat easier to identify with, but I'm pretty sure I'm not trans.

It's weird to me bc that's just enforcing gender binary which I thought people were rejecting now.

I don't like when people have gendered assumptions about me, but I also know identifying as non-binary won't prevent them from having those assumptions.

If I'm honest, I take it to mean "I'm somewhere on the autistic spectrum, and struggle to resolve my feeling of being a boy/girl with what seem like inflexible social categories".
I think it's something we'd all call ourselves if we were more binary in our thinking.

So, if there's a kind of spectrum of gender presentation between masculine/feminine poles, then to identify as non-binary would be to profess idiosyncratic preferences from all across that spectrum.

There are so many more important issues. I support people to be on a spectrum, I just don’t care. There is still deep poverty, existential threats and actual disease to fight against in the world and this personal topic now seems to be all anyone can think about.
