All y'all told me 0.5 was plenty but here I am nearly 2 hours into that dose and I feel totally normal. If you secretly had dosed me I would never guessed something was different.

I have a needle phobia, about to get needled; trying xanax for the first time. How strong is 0.5 mg? Will it be enough? Should I take 1mg? I'm 130lbs.

Xanax at 0.5 w/o anxiety should feel mostly normal minus some mild relaxation or possible drowsiness. At non-recreational uses, you don't really feel it that much. It does sound like you need a slightly stronger dose though keeping in mind the half life of dose in your system.

I did successfully get a shot with lower anxiety than usual though! I didn't even have a vasovagal response. I suspect the xanax did help a bit with that, though I felt no real difference otherwise.

If it's any help, I got my first shot today and barely felt it. I'm man enough to admit I closed my head and turned away. That barely registering micro-pinch in the dark.

Perhaps you have a very low ambient level of anxiety. If there's no GABA interaction occurring the benzo might have less effect? I don't know of any literature but I wonder how self-report of effects of Xanax differ between groups who self-report low levels of anxiety generally.
