In my student years I worked as a behind-the-cam translator for Russian camgirls. Essentially, the girl was the "facade" and I was her "personality". It became clear real fast that we were in business of selling personal connection, not (necessarily) sex.

I don't view any cams or subscribe to any OFs, but I do watch a decent amount of (gamer) twitch streamers and have had the same thought - they're selling a form of virtual friendship. Something feels awkward in acknowledging, or (gasp) requesting that type of arrangement?
