But then the media and politicians wouldn't get the attention, money, and power they desire....

This has already been tried with jihadism. Didn’t work.

Probably smart to not assume a wacko mass shooter is making truthful statements about his motivations when he is first taken into custody.

An effective method for sure, but an ethically questionable one to have media purposely report falsehoods. It's similar to the idea placebo effects are shown clearly to work in a lot of cases, but doctors shouldn't ever (ethically) prescribe them.

Yes we should definitely listen to the rantings of mad men and believe what they say 100 percent that makes total sense.

If I'm looking for motive, the confession of the killer is probably more likely to be true than speculations of twitter randos

how bout this "This is america you have easy access to guns you see all those white kids passing baseless mass judgements in the form of bullets, well it's your right as an American to turn around and shoot your peers at any time if your feel the need to - most people dont"
-
It's weird to see people talk so much about gun ownership in the USA because it's just not relevant. 40% of households own guns in the USA. The figure is 20% in Canada and 50% in Finland but those countries' stats are much closer to the UK, where almost no one owns guns...

Reminds me of an ep. of the Ghost in the Shell series There was a fake leak to the media of the prime minister being sick was used to hide a written assassination attempt. The assassinator was fooled for a moment Kind of an out-there ref. but hopefully that provides a texture
