Everybody acting like this general level of taxation is normal, inevitable or good makes me feel like I'm living in crazytown. It's pretty similar to everybody just sending their kids off to school and being like yep, this is going to be good for them

It depends on what you mean; early America was closer to libertarian in some aspects and ended up being pretty successful. Also not a perfect example but there's always en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kowloon_W

If we want to abolish welfare, we should find a way to create new free land that we can give out to people to homestead like they did back in those days. Oh, and make sure it's not limited to only white people this time around.

How do you read that description and think that's a desirable thing? Also early America was built on a constant state of conquest and territorial acquisition that allowed the government to hand out land like it was candy, and use black/native populations for cheap labor.
