Have met two people with childhood PTSD who have this. From what I can tell, the "personalities" can be thought of as competing, rarefied thought streams that, more times than not, are highly combative. Sometimes these are representations are of their abuser which means they 1/?

I was skeptical of it until I became close friends with a person who has been diagnosed with it, and I'm now much more confident it is (at least in some cases) "real" Though I wouldn't phrase it like your question, as the answers don't seem mutually exclusive
