My stalker has been determined eligible for a mental health diversion in SF, which means there will be no trial; all charges will be dropped, his criminal record scrubbed, and his arrest will be permanently sealed. I "have the right to speak" at the hearing. And I will.

I don't disagree that the man is mentally ill. I don't believe that a mentally healthy human being derives pleasure from telling women that he's watching them through their windows, that he's going to rape them, torture them, and then kill them.

But I do not believe that outpatient talk therapy is going to make him safe. I think it's going to reaffirm that he can play the system. It's going to make it much more difficult for any mental health professional to convince him that there are consequences for terrorizing women.

And frankly, I think it's ludicrous that he will be able to avoid punishment because he was motivated by the sheer pleasure of imagining how terrified I and these other women must be, rather than by some sufficiently "sane" goal like extorting money.
