Well actually fuck the nyt. I felt roughly neutral about them but now that I saw them write about a topic I'm deeply familiar with I realize how actually inaccurate and misrepresenting and unethical they are.

Because right wing extremists have far more cultural and political capital right now than left-wing extremists do, so they are a more prescient threat.

The single best defense of communism I've ever read was by an SSC commenter who would probably be fired for communism by many companies if he were doxxed

I think that’s missing the point. ‘Harbouring’ as used here seems to Neanderthal ‘read by’. So presumably the NYT also ‘harbours’ right wingers. These criticisms are in bad faith.

Presumably because NYT is left leaning and free speech / anti-mainstream media is a lot more associated with right wing than left wing. The article seems to highlight this, which I think is a fair critique.

While there is a very valid critique that cancel culture is probably stifling views as well, I’m not sure it’s the responsibility of every article to necessarily have to present it in a balanced way, especially as balance is subjective

Because the NYT standard is that if you are willing to talk to right wingers or to let them talk, you are automatically one yourself. They do not believe the same applies if you are willing to talk to left wingers.
