Can't poly relationships break up for those exact same reasons?
How do we determine what is a "primarily monogamous structure" beyond the only variable which is consensual involvement of one partner or consensual involvement of many?

Where does "needs not being met" overlap with bigger picture incompatibility I wonder. But while issues with monogamy has never caused a breakup for me, I consider it a real possibility
